Grants South of Green River 1797-1866

...sometimes known as "headright" claims--based on KY General Assembly Act of 21 Dec 1795. Prior to established of KY as a state, VA had reserved for her soldiers all the lands in KY south of Green River. Until 1979 no person could enter a survey within this region except for a soldier. New state of KY opened land to any persons possed of family and over 21. Entitled to not less than 100 acres or more than 200 acres. Must ahve lived on land one year before actual possession attained.

Kentucky Land Warrants, 1816-1873

sold for $20 per 100 acres, all vacant lands to anyone in KY except alien. Purchaser secured receipt from the State treasurer which was in turn converted into a land office warrant, authorizing the owner to locate and survey a certain acreage. When completed and returned to the land office, it was registered and a land patent was issued to owner within about 6 months.
